Modernist Terra Alta terracotta planter
Modernist planter made of wild terracotta clay from Terra Alta (Tarragona, Spain). Slab built forming a 4 wall piece with drainage hole. Fired in a manual gas kiln to 1050ºC in an oxidation atmosphere for 9 hours. This piece has been decorated with sculpted details inspired by the Catalan modernism (art nouveau) from the early 1900s . This art movement is characterized by the predominance of the curve over the straight line, by rich decoration and detail and by the frequent use of vegetal and other organic motifs.

The Paleogene terracotta clay from Terra Alta was collected from an abandoned extraction site, thus ensuring minimum landscape and ecological impact. Once collected, the clay was sieved to remove stones and roots.
