Puiggracios wild clays and rocks on Malhivern wild terracota vase
Vase made of wild terracotta clay from the Malhivern forest (La Garriga, Barcelona) decorated with 3 different wild clays and incrusted rocks from the Puiggracios mountain (Figaró-Montmany, Barcelona). All these materials are located within a 4 km radius distance from my studio in La Garriga. Wheel-thrown and decorated during the leather-hard stage of the piece with 3 different dry fine dust wild clays (white, red and ochre). The rocks were incrusted one by one on the piece also during the leather-hard stage.
Fired to 1050 ºC in an oxidation atmosphere for 9 hours in a manual gas kiln.
Height: 20 cm.
Diameter: 17 cm.
Malhivern and Puiggracios wild terracota clays were collected in a respectful way with the environment. Small amounts were extracted from low erosion risk sites, and without any landscape and ecological impact. Once gathered they were sieved in the studio to remove stones and roots.
